Politics on the street corner
The political dimensions of a public gathering in Tianjin
By Isabelle Thireau
English

This article analyzes the public gathering which, for more than twenty years, has appeared every evening in a public square in the Chinese city of Tianjin. It explores how the “doing together” of physical exercise and “talking together” about what is or about what should be are actions that are connected in order to bring out a less indeterminate social reality, to rebuild basic institutions dismantled by a specific historical experience.
